It's 12:26 am, Tuesday morning, and I am awake. After a very exhilarating day, I should be exhausted -- but instead. I am restless and can't sleep -- and am dealing with an issue that has been nagging me for some time now.
Am I Still a 1.0 Kinda Gal trying to live in a 2.0 world?
This past weekend, while participating in a discussion -- I mentioned that I was still teaching teachers (and students) how to use powerpoint. I cannot tell you the deluge of conversation that began to flow -- and I found myself defending myself on the use of a software that to my teachers IS STILL BRAND NEW.
Yesterday, I participated in a skype conversation with 3 teachers around the United States, but I could not figure out how to use Ustream and Skype successfully and disappointed a few people because they not only wanted to hear, they wanted to see.
A few days back, I embedded something onto my wiki and so wanted to go to twitter to say "Hey, lookee me! Look it what I did." But then refrained from doing so, in the fear of being laughed at for something so simplistic.
I am terrible at using my cell phone, I erased my ipod completely yesterday by accident, and my clock on my new stove says 0:00 and I can't seem to fix it.
It is my goal to be a good representative of 2.0 skills (heck, I started a group with 2.0 in the title) but I seem to constantly be falling back into a 1.0 world.
So what do I do? I don't mean to brag, but I have over 2,000 teachers on my mailing lists who look to me for their inspiration, their guidance, and their ideas. And they are comfy with me, with my ideas, with my simplicity.......will they be content if I move them out of their comfort zone? Will I be content if I move me out of my comfort zone?
I am ready to learn some new tools......but which ones? One of my projects has the teachers creating an online representation of a book they have read -- but for each of the tools I am highlighting, I know just the basics (ie: wiki, blogs, photoshare) An upcoming project is going to use Google Earth to map out where all the participants are -- but is that old school? Should I be going to an even higher level?
At 12:45am in the morning, I should be sleeping, instead of dealing with issues such as these.......but I am......and I wonder if you are too??
Hmmm - your thoughts?
